Is it a Hurst if there is no transmission?

I'm thinking the post should say "former Hurst." I mean it's just a shell now, and it could perhaps be restored with a Hurst, but isn't just a '79 Olds shell?

The Hurst/Olds is only a fancy shifter and graphics package. If it was equipped with those from the factory, then it was a Hurst. The transmission is nothing special, just typical turbo hydramatic with the BOP bell housing.

It didn't show it in the ad so I am assuming they took out the Hurst shifter, and there isn't a graphic package that I could see in the photos. So in the absence of anything Hurst related, is it still Hurst? I know the VIN could show the code, but I could call anything a "Hurst" if it's because it is possible to put a Hurst shifter in there.

Oh, uhm... I see that there is no link to the craigslist I was looking at when I wrote this. That's weird. I linked it; I promise. Perhaps I was Kinja'd.

This is what they should look like, it is possible, but it is likely a clone. Turning into a hurst clone would be the only way to make a 79 valuable.

I wouldn't waste your time on rolling chasis from a 79. This is one of the transition years between the A-Body and G-Body and they are pretty much terrible.

If you wanted a real Hurst, then you can probably get a 73-75 at a decent price and it will be a good car.

Making a tribute 72 would be the best route to take. Common year (at least for olds) and plenty of repro decals (because pace car).
